10/10

We will not be meeting next week.  I will be available if needed, schedule appointment. If YOU are not in a group, you need to email me ASAP!!

Group Assignment:  Read "Pedagogy of Poverty Versus Good Teaching" - Martin Haberman
Presentation: 5-8 min

Begin to critically analyze the text (construct/build meaning).
You are not summarizing the essay to present.
Pick something specific within the article that you wish to discuss as a group.
You have the autonomy of presenting anyway you want

Medium:
  • If you are using multi-media, please bring device to use in class that can be used with projector(ex. laptop computer)
  • If using power point, save in USB drive
  • If using YouTube, keep to minimal
  • If handing out material, please make sufficient copies

Rubric:
  • Everyone must participate
  • I will be providing FEEDBACK for each individual group
  • ORIGINALITY of presentation will be taken into account
  • Looking for thoughtful ANALYSIS and interpretations of the TEXT (Article)

ESSAY:
  • Due Next Class meeting
  • 3 pages /  You can split this up between group members
  • I don't want three seperate response papers
  • I want a unified paper / cohesive / organized essay
  • Construct meaning, use your writing experience, use discussions in class to guide your paper
  • Use academic related information that we have used in class if you want (Pedagogy/Metacognition//Standardized Testing/Rhetorical Reading)

    • Very well prepared
    • Thank you for defining “Pedagogy”
    • Prezi was very “to the point” informational
    • Good summarization of material
    • Very creative with your material
    • Needed probably a bit more analysis on specific topic
    • Overall I think rather than summarizing material presentation needed to be more specific and analysis based, consider this for your paper
    Israel / Donovan / Ramiro
    • Good summarization of material
    • How are teachers supposed to act?  Elaboration
    • What sums up good and bad teaching  Good discussion
    • Needed to be more specific in topic
    • Fairly brief presentation 5-8 min?
    • Presentation wise / Face audience/ Don’t just read off slides
    • Elaboration on material would have been helpful
    • Overall I think rather than summarizing material presentation needed to be more specific and analysis based, consider this for your paper
    Alondra / Carmen / Cassy
    • Presentation was disorganized
    • I’m not sure if your group actually got together to discuss article
    • Needed to be more prepared with information that you wanted to present
    • All of this makes for an effective presentation
    • You lost audience with time it took you to write info on the board
    • Higher Class / Lower Class  Not as mature?
    • This would have made for a good discussion as another student in class quickly pointed something out in your presentation
    • Overall I think rather than summarizing material presentation needed to be more specific and analysis based, consider this for your paper
    Eneliza / Jennifer / Danny
    • Nice definitions
    • Good summarization of material
    • Not much difference between poverty/good teaching  This would have been a good discussion
    • Overall I think rather than summarizing material presentation needed to be more specific and analysis based, consider this for your paper
    • I think the game was pretty cool
    • Thanks for the candy
    Justin / Julie / Sal
    • Poor / Class system  socioeconomic factors Sounds like you were questioning this? What do you think? Might have been a good discussion
    • Control factor was specific information in the article, good job. More of this
    • Poverty has a huge impact
    • Overall I think your group was more specific and analysis based, but you should have discussed this with class
    Yasmin / Maricarmen / George
    • Probably needed to be more prepared
    • Teachers don’t care  They’re going to get paid anyways
    • Discussion was effective
    • Discuss more of the essay according to Habberman
    • I hope the discussion translated into the essay
    • MONEY: Central Idea
    • Take the easy way out? Sounds like a good essay title
